Even More Scales

Here are some additional, more unusual scales you might find interesting to use. For other scales, see earlier pages Scales and More Scales.

The Melodic Major scale is similar to the Melodic Minor, covered earlier, but the third is not flattened.

The Harmonic Major scale is similar to the Harmonic Minor, also covered earlier, but the third is not flattened.

The Dorian Mode uses the same sharps and flats as the major scale but starts and ends on the second note of the scale. Here we have the Dorian Mode from the Bb Major scale. So the scale uses the notes from the Bb Major scale, but it starts and ends on C (the second of the Bb scale). It can be used as a C scale for interesting effects.

The Phrygian Mode starts and ends on the major third of the scale. Here we have the Phrygian Mode of the Ab Major scale, which starts and ends on C (the major third of the Ab scale) but uses the notes of the Ab Major scale.

The Mixolydian Mode starts and ends on the fifth of the scale. Here we have the Mixolydian Mode of the F Major scale, which starts and ends on C (the fifth of the F Major Scale) but uses the notes of the F Major scale.

The Neopolitan Minor Scale features a flat second, a minor third, and a flat sixth.

The Semi-Persian scale features a flat second.

The Byzantine scale has a flat second and a flat sixth.
